Human Trafficking

TESSA’s human trafficking program provides intensive case management to individuals who have or are experiencing any form of human trafficking. TESSA’s HT program will work with survivors of any age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexuality, or profession. Advocates can provide case management around safety planning, housing, relocating out of state, public benefits, medical care, employment, counseling, navigating legal systems, and accessing any other resources or referrals needed.

Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, obtaining, patronizing, or soliciting of a person for the purposes of a commercial sex act, in which the commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age (22 USC § 7102).

Labor trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purposes of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery, (22 USC § 7102).

  • Where you go?
  • What you do?
  • Who you speak to?
  • Your money and any valuables?
  • Your phone?
  • Your ID or other documents?

Does anyone:

  • Force you to perform work to meet your needs for food, shelter, clothing, or love?
  • Lie to you about the work you have to do?
  • Force you to do sexual acts with other people?
  • Take the money you earn or lie about your pay?
  • Threaten to hurt you, your family, or friends if you do not do what they say?

The El Paso County Human Trafficking Coalition was established in 2017. The co-leaders of this meeting are TESSA and the Department of Human Services. EPCHT meets every other month to connect service providers who are working with human trafficking survivors and share community resources/updates.
